Mostafa Negm born in a metro station and raised in Egypt’s coastal resorts. Mostafa had the opportunity to exchange ideas and cultural experiences with people from diverse cultures. One fateful day, he stumbled upon a collection of hard drives containing a treasure trove of film photos mostly shot in Cairo. The sight of these long-lost photographs awakened a profound yearning to revisit and unravel the tales behind them. After enrolling in Sinai’s Faculty of Fine Arts, his journey through academia was tumultuous, marked by an unfortunate clash of academic personalities, resulting in his expulsion from the institution. Onwards, Mostafa found himself in Cairo. Determined to continue his artistic journey and support himself financially, he sought opportunities and found employment as a graphic designer for local commercial print shops. While the work was not aligned with his artistic aspirations, it provided him with a stable income and allowed him to stay connected to the realm of design. Ever since, for years to come, he scours the streets of Cairo, seeking out street sellers, rummaging through metro stations, and scouring abandoned houses in search of forgotten snapshots of the past. He describes it as being capable of melting like a disembodies spirit into the atmosphere of local life. He makes it his business not so much to talk as to listen. During his spare time, he would immerse himself in the world of collage, experimenting with different techniques and materials.
