curated by Nada Nagy at Bibliothek Art Gallery

Arkan Plaza - Shiekh Zayed

Writing, as a tool of expression, transcends mere communication; it is a visual language capable of conveying emotions, often through text that goes unread. Through black expressive handwriting, this exhibition invites viewers into a world where script moves beyond conventional readability, transforming into abstract compositions that encourage deep engagement beyond its literal meaning.

Rather than being read, these artworks are meant to be experienced, and felt. They immerse the viewer in a sensory experience where writing becomes rhythm, pattern, and emotion. By stripping away direct meaning, Mariem creates space for reflection and personal interpretation, allowing text, abstraction, and familiarity to merge in unpredictable ways. This interplay encourages the audience to pause, observe, and connect with the work in their own way, making each encounter unique

The exhibition delves into  movement, balance, and spontaneity, reflecting the emotional depth embedded in the act of writing. Arabic script, in its diverse forms, evolves into fluid, dynamic compositions that challenge perception. Through continuous experimentation, Mariem expands the expressive potential of Arabic lettering, pushing it beyond linguistic boundaries into a purely visual experience.
