A Tale of an Ethereal City

A Tale of an Ethereal City

Artist: Khadija Abuo Hussien with Rasha Arous & Sara Kouedi.

Identity is inherently intersectional:  gender, nationality, and occupation are some of the terms that define who we are as people and how we experience the world within and outside of ourselves, in “A Tale of an Ethereal City” three women embark on a journey to explore these intersections, gracefully connecting three different temporary cities with a wider concept of belonging, of being a woman and a mother, using the geographies of solitude and belonging as a basis of expression.

Using three different mediums, photography, poetry, and painting each artist captures what’s “the city” to her, as a place to be and operate, the city delves into abstraction and enters the realm of surreal literary language, or the texture of paint laid upon itself in specific yet spontaneous manner, the city is also captured by the camera's eye imposing a distance between the viewer and the experience.

The exhibition invites you to experience three visions, distinct and intertwined in intersectional identities, highlighting the means in which art is expressed and perceived.
